Curatorial Statement:
101 Self Portraits is a curatorial investigation into the nature
of a traditional approach to art: The Self Portrait. The show
seeks to include many Los Angeles artists of different media in
order to ask a series of probing questions: Is the self-portrait
still a relevant subject? In the era of MySpace, et-cetera, has
the traditional self-portrait been surpassed in scope by digital
"biographies" or can something beyond the superficial be gleaned
from personal art forms that are not tailored to the digital?
The show will be about variety, the depth of talent in Southern
California and the synchronicity that occurs when curators discover
common threads among a diverse, yet talented group of artists.
